Kampong Glam Cafe – my wife and I were here today (31 January 2026) for lunch – it was the first time here for either of us. However, it was not that we had not been aware of this “cafe” or “eatery” that has been in business in Kampong Glam for maybe a decade or more already. It is just that we had been intimidated by the crowd of customers thereat. Anyway we had a very satisfying Malay lunch here today. We ordered the following here today: a very good Lontong, a tasty piece of ayam goreng, a nice enough epok epok, a comfortingly good Nasi Padang plate of ayam masak merah, tahu goreng, sayur lodeh and peria goreng, and a Coke Zero; all for $18.30, which was reasonably priced considering that it is Kampong Glam. Service here was very good – patient and friendly even though there was a constant stream of customers. The dining ambience here was nice enough considering that it was not air-conditioned and the staff here would clear your plates and cups after you are done with your meal.

Mee Rebus (SGD $4.50) @ Kampong Glam Cafe.
      .
Founded in May 2015, this stall is popular for its decently tasty, wallet friendly dishes.
      .
Their rendition has al-dente chewy soft yellow egg noodles, crisp bean sprouts, bouncy hard boiled egg, crisp green chili, and crisp fried shallots, with grainy savoury vegetal sweet eggy spice salty flavour.
      .
The gravy is medium thick, smooth and gloopy, carrying sweet savoury spice flavour.
      .
Enhanced with a bit of lime juice, lending a sour zesty tangy note.
      .

Mee Siam (SGD $4.50) @ Kampong Glam Cafe.
      .
Their homely rendition has thin punchy gravy, robust with zesty sour tangy sweet savoury spice nutty flavour, tending more towards the savoury side.
      .
The springy rice vermicelli noodles, crisp bean sprouts, crisp garlic chives, spongy tofu puffs, bouncy hard boiled chicken egg, and crunchy crushed peanuts, lend grainy sweet vegetal herbal savoury eggy nutty flavour.

Mee Soto (SGD $5.50) @ Kampong Glam Cafe.
      .
Established in April 2004 by Bashir Khan and his uncle, the late Abdul Rahim Bin Musa, this family-run corner stall is known for its authentic traditional flavours and value-for-money prices.
      .
Their rendition sits on the opposite end of the spectrum than most, being the most heavily seasoned and spiced version. The turmeric infused chicken soup / broth is cloudy and thick, with big meaty savoury salty sweet spice flavour.
      .
The base of chewy yellow egg noodles, crisp bean sprouts, tender boneless shredded chicken, bits of fresh crisp coriander, and crisp fried shallots, carry grainy sweet meaty savoury vegetal earthy herbal spice flavour.
      .
A small soft begedil / fried potato patty with starchy earthy savoury salty sweet spice flavour, rounds out the dish.

Kampung Glam Coffee has a cozy, laid-back vibe that fits perfectly with the character of the area. The coffee is smooth and well-balanced, and the atmosphere makes it a great spot to relax, chat, or take a short break while exploring. Service is friendly, and the overall experience feels warm and welcoming. A nice place to enjoy good coffee in a charming neighborhood.

Another late night joint that doesn’t burn a hole in your wallet . KGC sells mainly local one dish meal ie, mee goreng ( fried noodles ) , nasi goreng ( fried rice ) , mee siam, mee rebus, nasi lemak, lontong etc.

You can also opt for pre cooked ala Carter dishes of meat ( mutton, chicken, fish , & vegetables ) to go with some rice or breads

Beverages range from chilled canned flavoured drinks to hot beverages chief amongst which is the popular Teh Tajik ( pulled tea ) .

Most people come here for a meal or an after meal chill out place to people watch & soak in the unique heritage atmosphere…

I had the Mee Siam and Lontong, both were delicious and highly recommended. The Mee Siam was nice – the gravy not too thick or watery, not too spicy, sour or sweet, just the right balance. If you want to tone down the heat, ask the Cafe to hold on the sambal. The Lontong was also good, nicely balanced flavour.

We came around 8:00am on a Sunday just before the crowd so there were plenty of tables to choose from. 30 minutes later the place was quite busy. So come early to enjoy your breakfast.
