# Five Oars Cafe Experience Review
## 1. Location & Accessibility
– Five Oars Cafe is well-known on Singapore’s west coast.
– The journey took 45 minutes from the north of Singapore, based on a friend’s recommendation.
– Parking tip: Do not park in front (reserved for condo residents); use the HDB car park nearby. If missed, a U-turn is required, but parking is generally ample.
## 2. Ambience & Seating
– The cafe features an open layout with a central service and coffee preparation area.
– Ample takeaway options available, including soft drinks and wines.
– Hostess initially seated the reviewer in a crowded area; upon request, they moved to a quieter section for conversation.
– The atmosphere is lively but can be noisy during peak times.
## 3. Menu Highlights & Coffee Experience
– Menu offers monthly specials and a wide variety, with a strong focus on coffee.
– The reviewer tried the “Voyage of the Month” – El Tambor coffee from Guatemala (Chatuay Bourbon varietal, washed process), described as having notes of red plum, apple, and brown sugar.
– Coffee flight presentation includes three cups; concern raised about cup size and temperature (cups cooled too quickly). Reviewer suggests drinking espresso immediately for best experience.
– Flat white was preferred over the coffee of the month; reviewer recommends it.
## 4. Food & Pastry Assessment
– Pastries available, including croissants and sweets.
– Croissant was rated 6/10: looked fluffy inside but lacked desired flakiness and crust, possibly due to early baking time.
– Friend ordered a salad with nuts and cauliflower; it was tasty and recommended.
– Cajun chicken breast add-on was dry, as anticipated; reviewer suggests Singapore establishments often struggle with chicken breast preparation.
## 5. Staff Knowledge & Suggestions
– Reviewer noted the staff’s lack of knowledge about Cajun cuisine and suggested more training on menu items and origins.
– Took time to educate the server about Cajun origins.
## 6. Overall Experience
– Positive experience overall; suitable for a chat and casual brunch.
– Coffee (especially flat white) and salad recommended.
– Not a “wow” experience but pleasant and worth a visit.

March 18, 2026 at 4:22 pmMy hubby and I wanted to have breakfast here but the kitchen only opens at 8.30 am. We arrived at 8.05 as the Google map stated the opening time as 8 am. So we decided to eat at a nearby coffee shop and we came back here for the coffee. The coffee latte here was good and so was the service. The ambience here was quite exceptional. It’s spacious and quiet! There was a complimentary bottle of water on each table too! If you like coffee, do drop by at this place, you will not be disappointed!

March 18, 2026 at 4:22 pmMy friend brought us here after trying 5 Oars in Tanjong Pagar. There was a bit of a wait before getting a table but it was worth it! Forgot to take a photo of the wagyu burger because I started devouring it immediately! Chicken Sriracha is a must try as well! The ube pancakes were huge and tasty!

March 18, 2026 at 4:22 pmFive Oars at Siglap is one of my regular haunts for great coffee, desserts, and the occasional meal. Tucked away in a low-key building on Upper East Coast Road (formerly a foot massage spot!), this under-the-radar treasure surprises with its spacious industrial interior. The food and desserts are consistently excellent—from the indulgent chocolate tart to perfectly crispy barramundi. Great coffee, warm service, and relaxed vibes keep me coming back every time!

March 18, 2026 at 4:22 pmGood food and atmosphere here. It’s pet friendly and you can sit outdoors. We came in the evening and it wasn’t hot at all. The staff also kindly provided water for our dog. Overall we had a good experience there and the bread provided was amazing.
